Appy days for Rounded Labs following software sale

BIRMINGHAM’S technology firm Rounded Labs has sold app creation software to a subsidiary of London mobile retail specialist MoPowered Group for £170,000.

The London firm’s Isle of Man-based  subsidiary Global Mobile Transactions has entered into a conditional agreement with Rounded Labs, based in the Jewellery Quarter, for the  purchase of the app-creation software known as the Cortana platform.

MoPowered currently licenses Cortana from Rounded Labs, which it says has reduced the time and cost of building mobile commerce apps by approximately 40% and subsequently led to improved margins.

The firm’s directors believe that purchasing Cortana gives it a further competitive advantage and allows it to control its technology base.

Dominic Keen, CEO and founder of MoPowered Group Plc, said: “Since we started to use Cortana to build mobile commerce apps, we have been delighted with the positive impact that the software has had.

“It was therefore a logical step to acquire the software to make a long-term cost saving, whilst having an agreement to ensure that the creators of Cortana are incentivised to help the group deliver on its strategic goals.”
