Wolverhampton outlines canal quarter and Molineux square plans

LARGE-scale regeneration plans for Wolverhampton have been announced by the city council.
They include a canal quarter, a city centre cinema and 2,000 new homes as well as public squares and an increase in the retail offering.
The Canalside Quarter would stretch from Horseley Fields to Fiveways Island.
A Molineux Quarter would be created near the Wolves ground which would include a new public square.
A cinema would be built near Penn Road Island and Ring Road St Mark’s and there would be a new supermarket at Stafford Street’s Peel Centre.
There would also be shops and leisure facilities around the Springfield Brewery site, which will be taken over by the University of Wolverhampton next year.
Around 2,000 homes would be built around the city centre and surrounding areas including All Saints, Blakenhall, Graiseley, Chapel Ash and West Park.
The 12-year masterplan is to be discussed in more detail this week.
