MPW and The Cube set to undergo £200K facelift as it enters fourth year of trading

TO capitalise on its status as one of Birmingham’s top restaurants and hotels, Marco Pierre White Steakhouse, Bar and Grill and the adjoining four-star Hotel Indigo have undergone a £200,000 facelift.
With the accompanying Mailbox undergoing a dramatic refurbishment and other city venues also smartening up their act ahead of what will be a major year for Birmingham, the two attractions have opted to steal a march on their rivals.
Located on levels 25 and 23-24 respectively of Birmingham’s iconic Cube building, the restaurant, its bars and the hotel opened in December 2011 and have been operating successfully ever since. The restaurant alone currently serves on average 8,000 people per month.
The interior investment, announced as the venues begin their fourth year of trading, also coincides with the recruitment of John Lambourne-Richardson as general manager, Veruschka as food and beverage director and Simon Johnson as executive head chef for the restaurant.
Lambourne-Richardson, now general manager of Hotel Indigo and Marco Pierre White Steakhouse, Bar and Grill said: “Since both the hotel and restaurant opened three years ago we have fortunately seen an ever increasing number of guests through our doors. To ensure we continue to offer our guests the standard of luxury our venues are renowned for and keep the look and feel of them up to date, now seemed the ideal time to refresh the look.”
Work in the main bar on level 25 has already begun and will see the introduction of a high viewing bar, replacement of all furniture and carpet, to a grey, black and chrome colour scheme. The Private Dining Room will take on a black, white and gold colour scheme and will feature new white chandeliers, bespoke upholstered dining/meeting table and high back chairs, feature wall, functional blinds and dress curtains.
Alongside this, Hotel Indigo will see lighting and furniture refreshed and replaced in its 52 bedrooms. The hotel reception on level 7 and the Indigo Lounge on level 25 will also both undergo a refresh that will focus on and reflect the neighbourhood around them.
Leading on the design for the refreshed interiors is luxury design company Mr McQueen, which designed the new interior for the Laurent-Perrier Champagne Bar – also located on level 25 of The Cube – earlier this year.
Peter Murtha, co-director of Mr McQueen said: “The ethos of the Marco Pierre White group of restaurants is ‘affordable luxury’ and our focus for the interiors is to ensure the luxury part of this is present throughout.
“We’ve worked with the brand on several projects, so we understand the aesthetic look and feel of the restaurants.”
All the work is due to be completed by February 2015.
