Lifestyle: Food Scene News – Gas Street Social to open at Mailbox

WORK has begun on new bar and restaurant Gas Street Social, which is set to open at Birmingham’s Mailbox in March.
The team behind Shaker Group, a bar consultancy, training and events company which helped to train staff at the Lost & Found pub in Birmingham, has secured the 4,300 sq ft former Bar Room Bar site at the Mailbox and is transforming it into Gas Street Social through a £750,000 refurbishment programme.
The owners say the restaurant and bar will serve up a seasonal taste of home comforts and European sharing cuisine, alongside a speciality drinks menu.
Diners will be offered a menu based on a range of sharing dishes, grazing boards, small plates, stone-baked flatbreads and locally sourced meats and seafood, as well as a selection of regional and international craft beers and wines.
Gas Street Social will also offer a cocktail menu, featuring “handcrafted signature creations” and sharing drinks.
The Shaker Group, which is made up of husband and wife team Adam and Theresa Freeth, has also appointed local designers Spencer Swinden, known for its local work at Pure Bar & Kitchen and the Plough in Harborne, to “deliver unique character to the canalside venue with an industrial glamour”.
Gas Street Social will be able to accommodate up to 120 diners in the restaurant area, and will also have a large bar area and outdoor terrace for up to 36 people.
Adam Freeth said: “We are delighted to be amongst such great company here at the Mailbox, and as a Birmingham-based company, we’re excited to be opening this venue on home soil.
“We’ve brought together a fantastic team to create an incredible design and food and beverage offer, which we believe will be a great addition to the new Mailbox and Birmingham’s world-class culinary scene.”
