Prison term for Carillion as it celebrates contract wins

CARILLION has signed contracts worth approximately £200m to provide facilities management services for public sector prisons.

And the Wolverhampton support services and construction giant has also been selected by developer Helical Bar to deliver its £165m Barts Square residential-led mixed-use scheme in London, it is understood.

The prison contracts have been signed with the National Offender Management Service for public sector prisons and cover two geographical areas.

One contract will provide services in prisons in London and the East of England and the second will provide services in prisons in the South West, South Central, Kent and Sussex.

The contracts, which cover approximately 50 prisons, will be for an initial five-year period, but with the potential for two subsequent one-year extensions, subject to satisfactory performance.

Service delivery is due to commence on June 1.

Meanwhile, Construction Enquirer is reporting that Carillion has been chosen by developer Helical Bar to deliver its £165m Barts Square residential-led mixed-use scheme near Smithfield in London.

Barts Square planning consent has been obtained for a comprehensive redevelopment of 19 buildings to provide 236 residential apartments, two office buildings of 230,000 sq ft and 23,500 sq ft.

There will also be 21,800 sq ft of retail/restaurant use as well as major public realm improvements.

Helical Bar is developing the scheme in joint venture with US developer Baupost Group on land previously owned by St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
