Supermarket group selects Black Country for 500-job distribution hub

DISCOUNT supermarket chain Lidl is set to make a major investment in the Black Country with the development of a massive new distribution hub in Wednesbury.

The company is developing plans for the new 600,000 sq ft centre, which will be located on a 22-acre site close to Junction 9 of the M6.

The facility could lead to the creation of around 500 new jobs by the time it is fully operational.

The supermarket is set to hire managerial staff, together with warehouse workers and the company is hoping to source as many as possible from the local area.

The company acquired the land last year in order to develop the distribution hub, which is urgently required in order to sustain the company’s strong growth.

Lidl is now working with developers in order to present a planning application to Sandwell Borough Council within the next few months.

Lidl has said the new warehouse will help to service the firm’s stores in the West Midlands region and will benefit from good access to the M6.

The location is a popular site for the logistics sector because of its good links to the motorway network.
