Alexander Daniels strengthens its education division
BIRMINGHAM-based recruitment group Alexander Daniels has bolstered its education division with the appointment of two new team members.
Experienced recruiter Steve Underwood has joined the firm to head up its education team as divisional manager. He has more than 15 years in the industry, latterly as head of recruitment at a large FE college.
He has been joined by Caroline Garnett who has operated at a senior level for over eight years, latterly as regional manager for a national education agency.
AD Education supports and works in partnership with colleges and FE providers, supplying interim, visiting and sessional staff across curriculum, senior management and business support.
Underwood said: “Having managed recruitment onsite with a college environment, Caroline and I understand the ever changing demands on teaching and learning staff at all levels and the importance this has on the impact of the learners.”
New European road freight director for Hellmann UK
HELLMANN Worldwide Logistics UK – which has its headquarters at Fradley Park, near Lichfield – has appointed David Wright as its new European road freight director.
He will be responsible for chartering the road freight product across Europe with a focus on commercial activity.
He brings with him over 30 years of experience in several senior managerial roles within the logistics industry in the UK.
The new role will see him concentrating on growing Hellmann’s road freight product on a commercial basis and development of new business opportunities.
Wright said: “Hellmann is one of the largest family owned businesses in the world with a very strong European network and it is great to be a part of it.
“Hellmann already has a great reputation within the European marketplace and I am looking forward to building on this and driving the road freight product forward.”
New recruits for Whale Tankers apprentice scheme
SOLIHULL’S Whale Tankers has expanded its long-standing apprenticeship scheme with the appointment of four new young people on to the company programme.
The Whale apprenticeship scheme has been operating for more than 12 years and during this time 29 men and women have passed through the programme.
Following a recruitment process which began with more than 170 applicants, the four new apprentices are Chris Webber and Matthew Davis, who are both from Shirley, Luke Choudhury from Coventry and Reiss Hughes from Halesowen.
Mark Warmington, managing director of Whale Tankers and himself a former apprentice, said: “At Whale we believe the development of young people is not only important for us, but we also believe we have a responsibility to bring on the next generation of skilled engineers for the wider manufacturing industry.”
