Trowers & Hamlins says ‘hola’ to Selfridges’ Spanish sessions

STAFF at a Birmingham law firm have been taking a break from their desks in order to get a taste of Spain, courtesy of department store Selfridges.

Around 20 members of staff from Colmore Row-based Trowers & Hamlins signed up to Selfridges’ innovative ‘Work It’ campaign, which involves them visiting the store during their lunch break each day to learn basic Spanish.

‘Work It’, which runs until the end of the month, is a series of events designed to give office workers and shoppers a break from their regular activities so they can pursue a new interest.

The object is to refresh and re-energise the workers so they return to work with fresh focus.

Amardeep Gill, managing partner for the law firm, said: “As a firm that is committed to securing a work/life balance and developing our staff, we thought the initiative was a great idea.  Our staff were keen to be involved and a significant number have now signed up for the Spanish lessons. The initiative is a great opportunity to effectively use your lunch break and develop your language skills at a premier local venue.”

Selfridges has also teamed up with the popular Digbeth Dining Club to enable shoppers to then grab some tasty fare which they wouldn’t ordinarily be able to have during the week.

Sam Watts, deputy general manager at Selfridges Birmingham, said: “It is fantastic that we already have Trowers & Hamlins signed up to the classes, and we are encourage others to come along too. There is plenty on offer to not only help you within the workplace but with your home life too, and we hope people feel that they have made great use of their time throughout these two weeks.”
