Mega-contract wins at the double for Rolls-Royce

MIDLANDS aerospace giant Rolls-Royce has won contracts worth a total of $2.2bn (£1.4bn).
Its Trent 700 engines have been chosen by International AirFinance Corporation (IAFC) while Saudi Arabian carrier SAUDIA has awarded Rolls-Royce a lucrative engine support services contract.
The International AirFinance Corporation (IAFC) contract is to to provide Trent 700 engines, worth $930m, for 20 Airbus A330 Regional aircraft.
The Trent 700 now accounts for 90% of A330 freighters in service and on order.
Moulay Omar Alaoui, International AirFinance Corporation president and CEO, said: “We selected the Trent 700 as the best solution in terms of economics and reliability.”
Eric Schulz, Rolls-Royce, president – civil large engines, said: “We welcome our customer’s confidence in the Trent 700 as the best solution for fuel burn, emissions and noise performance as well as delivering unrivalled reliability for Middle East operations.”
More than 1,500 Trent 700s are now in service or on firm order, making it the largest in-service Trent engine.
Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce has been selected by SAUDIA, the national carrier of Saudi Arabia, to provide long-term TotalCare engine service support, worth $1.3bn, for 20 Airbus A330 regional aircraft.
The airline will operate the 20 aircraft in addition to the 12 A330s currently in service, also powered by the Trent 700.
Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Saudi Arabian Airlines director general, said: “We are pleased to be once again operating the Trent 700 for our latest aircraft. It offers excellent performance and reliability.”
