West Midlands projects contribute to Kier results

CONSTRUCTION firm Kier Group, which employs 800 people across the West Midlands and has offices in Solihull and Stoke-on-Trent, has seen revenue increase by 14% to £3.4bn.
Underlying profit before tax for the financial year is up by 17% year on year to £85.9m.
A range of local projects have contributed to the results, including the £12m Eastside Locks in Birmingham for Goodman, which is the first speculative office scheme to be constructed in the city since the recession.
It is also delivering the £24m accident and emergency unit at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, and the £12m Waterfront leisure development in Walsall, comprising a state-of-the-art eight-screen cinema and a number of food and retail outlets.
Kier was also recently awarded a contract, worth up to £475m, to turn part of the M6 into a smart motorway, in a joint venture with Carillion.
The firm also revealed it has a £9.3bn order book, 95% secured for 2016.
Kier Group chief executive Haydn Mursell said: “All of our divisions have performed well. We continue to simplify the portfolio and restructure our businesses and invest in our future growth.
“With a £9.3bn order book, a strong balance sheet and continued progress on our Vision 2020 goals this year, we look forward to the future with confidence.”
During this financial year Kier Group also joined the 5% Club to support momentum in the recruitment of apprentices and graduates. By joining the club Kier is working towards the target of having 5% of its UK workforce comprising apprentices, graduates or sponsored students on structured programmes within the next five years.
