BMW engine plant bakes up funds for Whizz-Kidz

STAR bakers’ show stoppers helped put local disabled children in the driving seat at BMW.

The workforce at the car manufacturer’s Hams Hall engine manufacturing plant, in Coleshill have proven their talents extend beyond engine building.

More than 20 budding bakers took part in a charity ‘BMW’ Bake Off, selling off their creations to colleagues to raise funds for the company’s house charity, Whizz-Kidz.

Kate Bird, communications manager at the plant, said: “With the nation gripped by the recent final of The Great British Bake Off, we thought we would hold our own competition and raise money for a good cause at the same time.

“We even had Mr Hollywood to judge!”

Dave Hollywood, judge of the ‘BMW’ Bake off and a mechanical and systems planner at the BMW site said: “In true BMW style there was an uncompromising focus on premium. There was not a soggy bottom or wobble in sight, and among the bake off entries there were some evolutionary designs with great dynamic stability control.”

The BMW Bake off successfully raised funds for the charity Whizz-Kidz taking the overall total raised across BMW Group’s UK locations to more than £120,000.
