Financial Appointments: Mazars; Aldermore; Signature Private Finance

Brace of new partners at Mazars

MAZARS has announced two partner promotions at its Birmingham office.

James Hurst and David Preston bring the number of partners to 12 at the Church Street practice.

The move reflects the growth of the Birmingham office during the past year, which has seen head count grow from 113 to 135.

Hurst joined Mazars in 2013 as a director responsible for VAT and indirect taxes throughout Mazars’ central region, which includes the Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Nottingham and Leicester offices.

He was formerly a partner with Grant Thornton in Birmingham and has 20 years’ experience in VAT and indirect taxes, initially with HMRC and latterly in senior roles at major accountancy firms.

Since 2013 he has built up Mazars’ successful VAT team across its offices in West, East and South Midlands.

Preston joined Mazars in 2008 to build the firm’s transaction services business in the West Midlands.

His team, which specialises in financial due diligence, capital markets work and sales and purchase agreement support, has been involved in a number of high profile transactions this year including GIL Investment’s acquisition of Ashworth and the AIM IPO of Hunters Property.

Lee Cartwright, managing partner of Mazars’ Birmingham office, said: “We are delighted to welcome James and David into partnership.

“This is just reward for their part in the team effort that has seen the Birmingham office grow significantly since we moved into Church Street in 2010.”
