Job cuts at AGA Rangemaster following new US parent’s ‘strategic review’

RANGE cooker and boiler manufacturer AGA Rangemaster is to shed 60 jobs at its Leamington Spa headquarters and another 68 positions at its manufacturing sites in Telford and Coalbrookdale in Shropshire.

Redundancy consultations have now begun for cuts to both manufacturing and office-based roles.

It is understood that in Leamington the proposals involve losing 33 out of 394 shop floor jobs and 27 out of 174 staff roles.

The move comes just five months after AGA Rangemaster was acquired by US-based firm the Middleby Corporation in a £129m deal and the job cuts are said to be part of a strategic review conducted by the firm’s new American parent.

The Coventry Telegraph newspaper reports that the GMB union has met with the company to discuss the reasons for cuts and said that it would be working to limit the number of job losses and avoid compulsory redundancies.

AGA intends to make the first redundancies by February 5.
