Jobs lost in West Bromwich as axe falls on furniture warehouse

TROUBLED furniture retailer Furniture Barn looks set to shed jobs in the West Midlands as administrators continue to try and salvage the business.

Administrators said that while trading continued across each of its seven retail stores based in Sutton Coldfield, Kidderminster, Thurrock, Market Harborough, Grantham, Doncaster and Sheffield, warehouses in West Bromwich, Doncaster and Thurrock had all closed.

It continues to operate a warehouse in Corby and a storage facility in Market Harborough.

The closure of the three warehouses, together with a reduction in capacity at the Corby and Market Harborough facilities, together with reduced operations at the group’s head office in Market Harborough will result in 45 job losses.

Nigel Hamilton Smith and Geoff Rowley, partners at FRP Advisory and joint administrators to the business, said it was anticipated that the eventual closure by the end of February of stores in Sutton Coldfield and Thurrock would result in the loss of a further 14 jobs.
