Architects appointed to design interior of taxi maker’s new offices

COVENTRY-based black cab manufacturer, London Taxi Company, has appointed interior architects Monteith Scott to design the workplaces in its new facility.

The project will see Monteith Scott work across three floors of the new manufacturing plant at Ansty Park to develop space for 300 staff including reception, a 270-seat restaurant, gym, locker room and toilets.

The build is a fast track project set to complete in autumn 2016 and will see the Birmingham-based design practice work alongside BHP Architects to develop the scheme.

Alison Monteith, managing director of Monteith Scott, said: “The London Taxi Company’s black cabs are an iconic piece of British culture, so it’s important that the space in which these are manufactured reflects this.

“The move to Ansty Park is part of a £300m investment programme by the London Taxi Company to develop the next generation of the iconic black cab, which will be a plug-in range extended electric vehicle that will go on sale in 2018.”

In 2013 The London Taxi Company became part of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group which has a vision to see the iconic London taxi on the streets of every major city across the world.

The project has also seen Monteith Scott work with a feng shui consultant on key areas of the building to align the interior with the company’s business ethos and to aid productivity.

Peter Johansen, chief executive office of London Taxi Company, said: “Monteith Scott have produced an exciting concept for our office layout that is both creative, functional and aesthetically pleasing.  We are delighted with their contribution to our new facility.”

Monteith Scott, based in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, is led by managing director Alison Monteith, design director Derek Matthews, and technical director John Millington. The company has two divisions – Work and Play – operating across a range of sectors, which means that it understands the demands of its clients’ industries.
