Aston Villa and West Brom named amongst the world’s top 30 richest clubs

THE Deloitte Football Money League has revealed that the three West Midlands Premier League clubs – Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City – are amongst the top 30 revenue generating clubs in the world.

Research from the accountancy and advisory firm – based on 2014/15 revenue figures – shows Villa – struggling at the bottom of the Premier League on the pitch – are in 23rd place in financial terms with revenues of £113.2m.

Stoke are in the top 30 for the second year in a row with revenue of £99.6m while West Brom have broken into the top 30 for the first time with revenue of £96.3m.

The top 20 clubs in the Deloitte Football Money League scored record revenue of more than £5bn, a new record.

Real Madrid top the list for the 11th year in a row with Manchester United falling one place to third and Barcelona climbing to second.

Nine Premier League clubs are in the top 20.

Dan Jones, partner in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, said: “The 2014/15 Money League has been another year of growth for the ‘big five’ European leagues. However, we have also seen a slowdown of growth from the top five clubs, with revenues growing by just 4% year on year, compared to 11% in the previous edition. It may be hard for new clubs to break into the top ten in the short term, given the €43.3m revenue gap between 10th and 11th place.”

A 10% strengthening of sterling versus the euro helped English clubs.
