Insurance giant planning closure of city base

REPORTS this morning suggest insurance giant RSA is planning to close its central Birmingham operation threatening the jobs of around 190 people.

RSA – formerly Royal and Sun Alliance – is based in the Colmore Gate building on the corner of Colmore Row and Bull Street.

It is reported as saying it hopes to stay in Birmingham at a new “commercial trading site” but it confirmed to the Birmingham Post newspaper that it is closing its city centre base following a review of its organisational structure.

A consultation period is now under way with staff affected by the decision with the company saying it will try to redeploy people if possible.

The Birmingham office houses commercial, claims, personal and finance operations.

RSA currently operates out of 13 cities in the UK, employing more than 7,000 staff.
