Appointments: BHSF Group; Coventry University; Grant Thornton

HEALTH insurers BHSF Group has appointed Jane Dale as chairwoman, succeeding Dr Paul Kanas who has held the role for 15 years.

Chartered accountant Ms Dale spent 18 years with Legal & General Group, including eight years as managing director of the group protection business and three years as managing director of its general insurance business, based in Birmingham.

She has also worked for Shop Direct Group, Aviva and AIG Life, and has been an independent non-executive director of British Gas Services since 2009.

BHSF Group chief executive Peter Maskell said: “BHSF is a diverse group with three businesses – health insurance, employee benefits and occupational health.  Jane will bring high-level experience both to our two heavily-regulated companies and to our fast-growing OH division and we are looking forward enormously to her input to our exciting agenda.”

COVENTRY UNIVERSITY has appointed a new deputy vice-chancellor to lead and develop its wide-ranging research portfolio.
 
Prof Richard Dashwood is set to join the institution from Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the University of Warwick, where he is currently academic director, head of engineering materials and manufacturing, and chief technical officer of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult.

He will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Coventry University’s ambitious research strategy, and takes over from the retiring Prof Kevin Warwick.

Vice-chancellor Prof John Latham said: “Richard has considerable experience heading up research programmes and a wide range of high-profile projects funded both from Europe and through UK government and industry, so we anticipate that Coventry’s research capability, influence and impact will continue to strengthen and excel under his leadership.”

GRANT THORNTON has promoted its public sector specialist Mark Stocks to partner, four years after he joined the firm from the Audit Commission.

Mr Stocks is head of the firm’s 70-strong public sector assurance practice in the Midlands and leads Grant Thornton’s health group nationally.

He said: “Public sector organisations across the Midlands continue to face change on an unprecedented scale, not just working within constrained budgets and new financial models but also taking account of how society’s needs and expectations are changing.”
