West Midlands rail network returns to normal after day of disruption

RAIL passengers were set for an easier journey to work today following the completion of emergency repairs to overhead power cables near to Birmingham International station.

The cables were damaged early yesterday in an incident with a train and the subsequent problems wreaked chaos across the region’s rail network for most of the day.

Most of the major operators were forced to cancel services between Coventry and Birmingham New Street, with replacement bus services operating throughout the day.

The cancellations had a knock-on effect for the West Coast Main Line service in particular, with trains travelling into London Euston disrupted.

However, services were back to normal this morning and no delays have been reported across the network.
