On-the-go breakfasts for the average workaholic

It can seem impossible to actually create something nutritious in the limited time you have, so we’ve come up with a few ideas to help get you going in the morning.

1. Almond butter

It sounds odd, but it’s just like peanut butter, only with almonds and it will actually benefit your health. Why wouldn’t you want energy, protein and cardiovascular benefits on your slice of morning toast?

2. Fruit Salad

It doesn’t get any simpler than this. Just grab a tub, a variety of fruit, and spend five minutes chopping. Finally, sprinkle granola on top and leave the house. You can save time by doing it the night before if you avoid using bananas and other mushy fruit.

3. Flaxseed

You might want to grind these up before digesting them whole. Adding these to your cereal will increase your daily intake of fibre and omega-3. Flaxseed also contains antioxidants that can protect against breast cancer.

3. Microwave scrambled eggs

Crack open two eggs and whisk well in a microwavable dish. Put in a pinch of salt and pepper and set your microwave for 1 minute. Avoid salmonella by ensuring your eggs are not runny by sticking a fork in and fluffing them up.

If you a big fan of eggs, hard-boiling a few before work could be the quick dose of protein you need before a long day.

4. Muffins and or bagels

Whether you have a sweet tooth or are more in favour of something savoury, muffins can work around your preference. Blueberry muffins are a personal favourite at breakfast time, they’re about as quick as it gets – all you have to do is tear off the packaging. If you’re a bit of a baker, whip up a batch the night before and enjoy a weeks worth of sugary breakfasts.

Savoury muffins or bagels are equally as satisfying, just fill them with ham, salmon, cheese or chorizo and be on your way to work.

Whilst you may be craving a sausage sandwich, cooking the meat right through can take time so these quick, vitamin-packed alternatives should keep you going at least until you can make it to the breakfast van outside your work.
