Crisp maker bags German business

CRISP maker Tyrrells has made a big investment in its European operations with the purchase of German producer Aroma Snacks for an undisclosed sum.

Europe accounts for around 15% of the group’s sales and Germany is Tyrrells second-largest export market.

The deal to buy Aroma, which makes organic crisps and owns the Lisa’s Hand-Cooked Chips brand, includes manufacturing facilities that will help it to increase its European sales.

David Milner, chief executive of the Herefordshire-based business, said: “We are delighted to increase our capabilities in Europe as well as to boost our organic expertise with this acquisition. Tyrrells is now in an excellent position to ensure we continue to meet growing demand for Tyrrells in continental Europe.”

It is the second major acquisition in nine months for the company, after it bought Yarra Valley Snack Foods last August, to increase its presence in its largest export market, Australia.

Tyrrells was founded in 2001 and has grown to be a £60m-turnover company which exports to 37 countries. With the addition of Aroma, the company will have five manufacturing sites around the world.
