Gastropub crowned Midlands Local Restaurant of the Year

BAUGHTON gastropub The Jockey Inn is reaping the benefits of a £1m refurbishment after being crowned Midland’s Local Restaurant of the Year.
The independently-owned inn, which serves freshly-made British cuisine, was this week awarded the title by food bible The Good Food Guide.
The venue’s previous incarnation as a dated country pub serving cooked-from-frozen pub grub certainly wouldn’t have it winning any awards.
The Jockey Inn has been given a new lease of life after being acquired by Rebekah Seddon-Wickens in 2011 and receiving a three-year makeover.
Ms Seddon-Wickens said after two pub closures in the local area, “they wanted to give something back to the local community” by providing them with a modern gastropub West Midlands could be proud of.
As her first venture, the owner largely based the style of the restaurant on where she could see herself dining. But it’s not just the interior that makes the venue stand out, the Jockey Inn’s menu is packed with fresh locally sourced ingredients.
Ms Seddon-Wickens said: “Everything is made from scratch by our five chefs.
“And unlike other restaurants, we serve food all day, but we’re not just a restaurant or pub, it’s a drinking venue too – we have a massive list of cocktails.”
