University restructure puts dozens of senior jobs at risk

A RESTRUCTURE at Staffordshire University expects to result in 30 job cuts, although the institution insists it is not a money-saving move.
The University is to move from having four larger faculties to six in order to improve its management structure. It is now consulting with staff about its plans, which puts 81 senior roles at risk while creating 51 new positions.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Liz Barnes said: “At the moment, we’ve got four big faculties and there are barriers in terms of cross-university work and bringing subjects together.
“We want to have smaller schools, which bring subjects together in a more coherent way. We are trying to identify opportunities.”
The six proposed faculties are digital technologies; engineering and creative arts; health and social care; education, psychology and sport; law, policing and forensics; and business, leadership and economics.
“This is not about saving money,” added Prof Barnes. “We believe this new agile approach will allow resources to be spent on academic delivery, putting our students first, as well as focusing on applied research.
“While this period of change is not easy for staff and those directly impacted, we are committed to consultation and staff will be offered guidance and support throughout this period.”
