5 things to do in the West Midlands this weekend

Gunpowder Treason Weekend
Head to Blakesley Hall this weekend for a weekend dedicated to the Gunpowder plot. There will be a play for the whole family to enjoy with several performances taking place across the weekend. There will also be a quiz and trails for everyone to take part in with facts about the plot for you to learn. Poppy RunPoppy Run
Support The Royal British Legion on Sunday where you will be able to take part in a 5km run, jog or walk at Sutton Park. The Poppy Run is supported by British Military Fitness, who will be providing free fitness sessions to support all participants in preparation for the Poppy Run. The event will begin at 11:00am and start with a two minutes’ silence and will include an official Poppy Run 2016 t-shirt and a medal for all finishers. Find out more here.

The MousetrapThe Mousetrap
The scene is set in this classic Agatha Christie whodunnit when a group of people gather in a country house cut off by the snow discover that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their pasts until at the last moment the identity and the motive are finally revealed. The show returns to the New Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham this week, with Saturday performances taking place at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Find out more here.

Cake International returns to the NEC Birmingham this weekend with the world’s largest display of competition pieces, demonstrators and industry experts to teach the newest trends. There will also be stands full of must-have baking and sugar crafting essentials. Visitors to the exhibition can also explore The Crafts for Christmas show, The Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts show and Art Materials Live this weekend too, with all events being included in a ticket. Love WineLove Wine 2016
Head to Birmingham’s Burlington Hotel this Saturday for a whole day dedicated to wine. There will be between 30-40 exhibitors, with over 250 wines to taste and many masterclasses to take part in. There will also be food and other retailers offering every wine-related product you could ever need. You can also take part in wine walks with wine celebrities from the BBC.
