Start-up aims to be the perfect tonic to energy deals

TWO energy supply specialists from the Midlands have chosen Birmingham as the base for their new business.
Chris Russell, from Leamington Spa and Simon Perkins, from Nottingham both have experience of the Big Six energy suppliers.
They have pooled their skills in creating Tonik, which is operating from offices in the city centre and which has secured the backing of investor Jim Hayward.
Tonik aims to help its customers use less energy, thereby cutting their bills and reducing their impact on the environment.
The duo said new technology now meant it was far easier for people to save energy – sometimes by as much as 50% with five years.
Customers will be given advice on reducing energy consumption, what technology to use and offered fixed price deals.
The option to buy 100% renewable electricity will also be available.
Mr Russell, managing director, said: “For other suppliers, it’s about revenue and profit today, and not about building a better tomorrow with and for customers. There is such a missed opportunity to unlock the potential of smart and other modern day technologies for the benefit of customers, and to create something that is genuinely unique in its approach.
“The traditional energy supply model is very outdated and we saw an opportunity to change it so that customers benefit. This approach means they don’t just benefit from cheaper energy at the start, they can access ways to keep saving long into the future, which is good for them and good for the environment.”
Mr Perkins, operations director at the firm, added: “We wanted to do away with over-complicated tariffs and confusing bills, by being completely transparent about our charges.
“We think customers will be excited not just by the simplicity of our approach, but also the fact that Tonik is genuinely on their side and helping them to save money and time.”
