Care group wins LoveBrum’s monthly award

LOVEBRUM, the Birmingham charity which supports the work of community groups across the city, has awarded a grant to Birmingham Care Group.
Each month LoveBrum’s members vote for one of three shortlisted groups, who all operate in a similar space, with the most popular receiving £2,000.
In November the theme was mental health. Birmingham Care Group, which operates four days a week, supports vulnerable adults who are suffering from mental health problems.
The group said: “The funds would be used to pay for a hot meal for its members, in particular as the winter is setting in. Some individuals who attend the centre are living independently and do not eat a proper meal.
“It will also allow them to have continued access to health and wellbeing activities by having a fitness instructor deliver much needed exercise. These activities are designed for all age groups including those that have limited mobility.
“The funding would also allow the provision of the minibus service to continue, and buy arts and crafts materials, including knitting supplies, for the group.”
The other shortlisted groups were My Anxiety, an independent film that has been made by a group of people to raise awareness of mental health, and the Kaleidoscope Plus Group (KPG) is a registered charity which has been providing services to promote and support better mental health since 1973.
* THE winner of LoveBrum’s monthly award in February, Uplands Allotments, is seeking volunteers to help out with the construction of a community oven and associated spaces on its site in Handsworth.
From December 10 and throughout the winter the group will be on site to lay the groundwork and would welcome any volunteers who would like to get involved in the project. If you can help, contact Ashleigh at Love Brum on 0121 270 5274 / ashleigh@lovebrum.org.uk.
