The answer from Google’s CEO to a job-hunting 7 year old

Google chief executive Sundar Pichai has written to a Hereford school girl to tell her that she could one day work for the global technology giant.

7-year-old Chloe Bridgewater wrote a letter earlier this month telling the Google boss that she would like to work at the company when she is older as she loves computers and is an excellent student.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai responded to Chloe’s letter within a week, thanking her for getting in touch and giving her advice. In the reply, he said: “Thank you so much for your letter. I’m glad that you like computers and robots, and hope you will continue to learn about technology.

“I think if you keep working hard and following your dreams, you can accomplish everything you set your mind to – from working at Google to swimming in the Olympics. I look forward to receiving your job application when you are finished with school.”

In her letter, Chloe said: “I can sit on bean bags, go down slides and ride go-karts in a job at Google.

“My teachers tell my mum and dad I am very good in class and am good at my spelling, reading and my sums.

“My dad told me if I carry on being good and learning then one day I will be able to have a job at Google.”

Chloe, who goes to Lord Scudamore Primary School, also told the CEO that she loves computers and that she also dreams of working in a chocolate factory and swimming in the Olympics.

Google is renowned for offering its employees a wide range of perks, including free food, massages, free on-site childcare, fitness classes, extended leave and all sorts of fun décor choices.

Chloe’s dad, Andy Bridgewater, a regional sales manager at FERMOD, encouraged her daughter to send the letter to Google and also sent an email on her behalf to the company, to ensure that the letter would make it to the CEO.

Andy said: “I told Chloe a few years ago about Google and what the offices are like and what employees get. She has loved the idea of working there ever since.

“I think when a child shows an interest in something, why shouldn’t a parent help their child follow their dreams and encourage them to do well. She was over the moon when she received the letter back. She saw the envelope with Google on and was so excited.

“First and foremost, she needs to be a child, she needs to laugh, cry and do everything that a kid does. But Chloe is happy to search for ways to get involved with programming and learn more about computers and she wants to do well at school, she is quite a mature little girl.”

However, Chloe’s job hunting is on hold this week – she is enjoying half term at a trampoline park.
