High-end hotel chain denies Nottingham interest

A high-end boutique hotel has denied reports in the local press this week that it is looking to open in Nottingham.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Hotel Indigo, which is owned by the multinational IHG group, had approached Miller Birch, the developers of the Guildhall site in Nottingham, with a view to opening a hotel in the scheme.

However, a spokesperson for IHG, has denied that Nottingham is in the company’s plans.

Andrew Shaw, associate vice president, development, UK & Ireland, at IHG told TheBusinessDesk.com: “We’re always looking at new opportunities and locations for our brands and have ongoing conversations with developers. We don’t currently have a Hotel Indigo in Nottingham in our pipeline.”

Team Nottingham has been in MIPIM this week pushing the £120m development on the 2.31 acre site of the former Central Fire and Police stations and Guildhall Place.

Improvements to the 300,000 sq ft Guildhall Place could see a four-star hotel, offices and in addition, discussions are taking place with Nottingham Trent University regarding the creation of new facilities.

Miller Birch is working in partnership with Nottingham City Council on the scheme.

Mark Bielby, development director at Miller Birch, said: “We are delighted to be redeveloping this major city centre site. This follows on from the successful delivery of Trinity House for E.On, one of the largest office developments ever completed in the city. In addition to Nottingham Trent University, we are already in discussions with major office occupiers and hotel operators.

“Miller Birch has an unrivalled track record in the city with schemes such as ng2 Business Park, and delivering new facilities for occupiers, such as Speedo, Specsavers and Co-operative Insurance. We are confident we can continue this success at Guildhall Place.”
