In Brief: Two partner promotions at Beachcroft, new director at Cobbetts and administrator leaves firm for third time.

Beachcroft appoints new partners in Birmingham

Liz Duley, new partner, Beachcroft in BirminghamCOMMERCIAL law firm Beachcroft LLP has promoted two new partners in its Birmingham office. The appointments of Liz Duley, left, in the injury risk group, and Nick Basi, from the property risk solutions team, bring the total number of partners in the Birmingham office to 11. Beachcroft has appointed seven new partners nationally, which will take its total number of partners to 151. Senior partner Simon Hodson said: “These promotions reflect our planned programme of targeted growth in our key business areas. During the last year we have seen expansions in our Northern Health practice with the team that we brought over from Halliwells. We have expanded our London Financial Institutions practice through the acquisition of insurance litigation specialist firm Williams Holden Cooklin Gibbons LLP (WHCG). Against this background of growth through acquisition it is very rewarding to be able to promote home-grown talent.”

Cobbetts strengthens business restructuring team

He will jointly head up the business restructuring services team in Birmingham alongside Alan Meiklejohn, right, also a director at the firm. Mr Shorthose’s most recent role was senior associate at Shoosmiths, where he was head of the firm’s contentious insolvency team. Before joining Shoosmiths, where he worked for five years, he was an associate at HBJ Gateley Wareing. In his new role he will provide turnaround, restructuring and insolvency advice. Graham Muth, left, head of the Birmingham office of Cobbetts, said: “Daryl is an experienced and well respected lawyer in his field and will be a valuable addition to the team in developing and moving our restructuring business forward.”

Practice Administrator leaves Band Hatton – for third time

Mark Moseley, practice director, Band Hatton toasts retiring administrator Sally CowiePRACTICE administrator Sally Cowie has called time on her career with law firm Band Hatton after three separate stints with the Coventry solicitors. Mrs Cowie, 62, left, spent a total of 22 years with the firm, having originally joined in 1972 before leaving to spend time in Australia. She rejoined shortly after before leaving once more for the birth of her first child. Mrs Cowie then joined for the final time in 1990 and spent the next 20 years with the practice. Mark Moseley, left, practice director at Band Hatton, said: “Sally is an inspiration to everyone at Band Hatton; sincere, generous and she has dedicated the best part of her working life to the firm. Sally will be missed on many levels.”
