St. Modwen appoints new chairman designate

REGENERATION specialist St. Modwen has appointed a new chairman designate and non-executive director.
Bill Shannon will join the Birmingham-based firm from the start of next month and will formally replace Anthony Glossop at the conclusion of St. Modwen’s AGM in March 2011.
Mr Glossop is stepping down from the firm after nearly 40 years of service.
He said: “I am delighted to welcome Bill to the board and as my successor, he brings with him extensive management experience across a range of publicly listed and private companies.
“His long and successful career at Whitbread, where he managed a vast property portfolio and his time at Barratt Developments, provide him with an excellent grounding as chairman of St. Modwen.”
Mr Shannon is currently chairman at AEGON UK which he joined in 1997 as a non-executive director before becoming chairman in 2005, having previously enjoyed a 30-year career with hotel, pub and leisure chain Whitbread.

In addition to his chairmanship of AEGON UK, he is also currently a non-executive director of Johnson Service Group, Rank Group and Barratt Developments.
He will be resigning from the board of the latter at its next meeting.
Previously he has held non-executive director positions at clothes chain Matalan and at several private companies.
He said: “As the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, St. Modwen is hugely respected in the property industry and I am delighted to be invited to become chairman of the board.
“I look forward to the challenges ahead and working with the board to guide the company’s future success.”
