Cable set to defend business policy at Birmingham dinner

BUSINESS Secretary Vince Cable will bring the government’s drive to win support for its spending cuts and business policies to Birmingham next month when he addresses the annual dinner of the Lunar Society.

The Lunar Society
today is the modern incarnation of the famous group  formed in Birmingham in the 18th century by some of the era’s greatest thinkers. Its founding members included the engineer James Watt, the industrialist Matthew Boulton and the scientist Erasmus Darwin.

Its members discussed innovation, manufacturing techniques and the impact of industrialisation on society, and their  modern successors continue the tradition with research and events on themes as diverse as the media, global warming and social policy.

Recent speakers at Lunar Society events  include Jonathan Porrit, Sir Liam Donaldson, Sir John Armitt and David Milliband.

Dr Cable will address the society’s annual dinner at Birmingham Council House on Thursday November 11. TheBusinessDesk.com is the media partner for the event, and it is sponsored by Deloitte. Some tickets are still available: click here for details.

Leading Lunar Society members will be sharing their thoughts on how the government’s policies affect the West Midlands economically and environmentally, particularly in regard to scientific research and development and advanced manufacturing.
