AKW MediCare appoints new Chief Executive

WORCESTERSHIRE manufacturer AKW MediCare, the UK’s leading supplier of elderly and disabled shower and kitchen products, has appointed a new chief executive.

Paul Massey has been appointed to help drive significant growth and expansion plans in the UK and internationally.

Mr Massey, 56, who has joined the Droitwich firm with immediate effect, is a qualified engineer who has worked within the specialist building products sector for more than 35 years. He brings a wealth of business management, specialist manufacturing and commercial experience to the main board.

He was previously managing director at Ideal Stelrad Group UK, a leading boiler and radiator manufacturer.  After successfully delivering significant growth within the UK market, Mr Massey was appointed to Ideal Stelrad’s executive board of directors in 2008 as chief commercial officer for its European and Turkish businesses.

Established in 1980, AKW MediCare designs and manufactures more than 5,000 specialist solution products including easy access shower, kitchen and daily living aids which enable people to maintain their independence and stay in their own home.

The firm has an annual turnover of more than £40m and employs in excess of 260 people in the UK and overseas.  The business also has international operations in the US, Europe and China, as well as a distribution centre and sales office in Belgium, which was opened in January 2009.

Mr Massey said: “AKW MediCare has built its market-leading position by offering high-quality products to customers, backing this up with excellent aftersales service and high-calibre employees. We have several new product and business innovations in the pipeline, all of which present exciting opportunities for growth.  I am confident that we can deliver significant revenue and profit growth in the near future.”
