In Brief: Last chance to register for Y11; New owners for garden centre; and more

THERE’S still time to register for Welcome to Yorkshire’s Y11 annual conference.

The regional tourist organisation will unveil its plans for the next 12 months and explain how businesses can benefit from the sector.

More than 1,000 delegates are expected to attend the event, which takes place at The Leeds Grand Theatre on April 11 between 10.15am and 2pm, and will also provide an opportunity to network.

THE owners of Spring Garden Centre and Brigg Garden Centre have added a sixth garden centre to the group after acquiring the Yorkshire Garden Centre at Gilberdyke in East Yorkshire.

The British Garden Centres Group, which has centres in  East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Cleveland and Lancashire, plans to acquire a further four centres in the North and Midlands during the next five years to bring its total to 10.

British Garden Centres Group director, Charles Stubbs, said: “We will be investing in the Yorkshire Garden Centre, especially to enhance its plant area and café, and we will be adding more staff to the existing team of 15 people.”

Mama Doreen'sMAMA Doreen’s, the Harrogate-based cupcake specialist, has won a listing with ASDA.

The business will initially supply five ranges to the supermarket’s Pudsey branch.

Mama Doreen’s was introduced to the Asda buyer at the Great Yorkshire Show where the business was exhibiting under the deliciouslyorkshire banner.

Becky Boyes, trade development specialist at deliciouslyorkshire, said: “Being able to exhibit under the wider deliciouslyorkshire banner at events such as the Great Yorkshire Show often gives buyers from the larger retailers that extra confidence that they are dealing with a genuine business prospect.”

HaulinAdsEAST Yorkshire-based truckside advertising specialist HaulinAds has linked up with a vehicle branding company and a logistics firm to make a bold gesture of support for Comic Relief 2011.

Working in partnership with Culina Logistics and RGVA, HaulinAds has helped to ensure that, for the next few weeks, Harry Hill, Dawn French and Michael McIntyre will be touring the UK reminding people to help raise money for Comic Relief on March 18.

The comedians’ faces will appear on the sides of a number of Culina Logistics’ trucks as they travel around UK.
