Dickinson Dees expands in York

LAW firm Dickinson Dees has recruited a raft of lawyers across a range of disciplines as it looks to continue its growth.

The recruits have joined the York office of Dickinson Dees in its construction, environment, commercial and private client departments.

Senior partner Robin Bloom said: “Despite the difficult economic climate, it is important that we recruit in these areas where opportunities are growing.

“The geographical reach of the firm continues to expand and the servicing of existing and new clients across the breadth of the country has reaffirmed our decision to open an office in York, outside the crowded legal scene in Leeds.”

Construction and waste specialist Dean Larder has been appointed as partner from Leeds-based Pinsent Masons to head the firm’s construction practice in York, bringing with him solicitor Vicky McCombe, to enhance the firm’s construction and waste services in Yorkshire.

Mr Larder said: “The construction and engineering group at Dickinson Dees has an excellent reputation and I am delighted to have the opportunity to establish and develop a construction team in York which I see as a fresh and exciting challenge.”

Mr Larder’s appointment complements the recent arrival of leading environment lawyer and waste specialist, Claire Brook as senior counsel to work with the environment team to lead the firm’s environment practice in Yorkshire.

Moving from Leeds-based Walker Morris where she was head of environment, Ms Brook has joined Dickinson Dees to complement the firm’s full service offering in Yorkshire across the corporate and commercial, property, litigation and private client departments.

Ms Brook said: “It’s clear that Dickinson Dees is gaining an increasing reputation throughout Yorkshire and this, combined with the firm’s focus on the waste sector, was extremely attractive to me.”

The York office has also welcomed the arrival of Sue Streatfield from Eversheds where she led the Leeds intellectual property team.

Ms Streatfield specialises in all areas of intellectual property litigation, with particular experience of pharmaceutical patent litigation.

Caroline Hedges has also joined from Rollits to lead Dickinson Dees’ private client team in York.

She said: “The expansion of our wealth management team into the York office is one of the final pieces in the jigsaw for Dickinson Dees in Yorkshire.”
