Doors open to £4m health centre

A NEW £4m health centre development in North West Leeds has opened its doors with extra capacity to expand its patient list.

Funded by health provider Assura Property, Ireland Wood Surgery replaces the former Tinshill Lane Surgery, which has relocated to premises built at the junction of Otley Old Road and Iveson Approach.

The new building boasts more space for its existing 9000 patients and offers extra capacity for more patients.

NHS Leeds, the local primary care trust, has extended the catchment area enabling the new surgery to expand its patient list.

In addition to the extra space and modern facilities, the new Ireland Wood Surgery will be offering new services including in-house physiotherapy and an expanded ophthalmology service.

It also houses a pharmacy, Cohens, and optician, Lawrence Gaunt.

Assura’s development and build team included Leeds-based Abstract Healthcare as developers, CMC UK  as employers representative, P+HS Architects and Tolent Construction as building contractor.

Assura’s property development manager Amanda Horley said: “The new Ireland Wood Surgery is an excellent example of what can be achieved by partnership working between local GPs and specialist developers like Assura in meeting the growing needs of a modern NHS in the  21st century. It is a superb facility for this part of North Leeds.“

Christine Gaughran, managing partner of Ireland Wood Surgery, added: “Everything is much more convenient for patients with the improved facilities, additional services including a pharmacy and an optician, as we now have significantly more space, we will be able to accept more patients.”

The practice’s other surgery at the New Croft in Horsforth will continue and is unaffected by the move.
