Multi-million pound school building contracts for firms

TWO East Yorkshire businesses have teamed up to work on the development of seven new schools across the region.

EYG Commercial, part of Hull-based EYG Group, has been awarded contracts valued at around £300,000 by Britspace, the Gilberdyke off-site construction manufacturer, to provide windows and entrance doors to new schools in Leeds and Sheffield.

Britspace has also secured a three-year agreement with Leeds City Council valued at up to £40m, plus a contract with Willmott Dixon and Sheffield City Council to manufacture and construct school buildings.

The three Sheffield schools are due for completion and occupation by the end of May.

Dennis Bernard, EYG’s commercial accounts manager, said the contracts had further enhanced the company’s reputation within the school building sector.

Mr Bernard said: “During the past few years, we have completed some major contracts on schools and university buildings, including work on 19 schools across North Yorkshire and other projects in Hull and Beverley.

“Apart from the obvious satisfaction from being appointed to undertake these latest project, it is good to work with another East Yorkshire business, especially one such as Britspace.”

Commercial glazing specialist EYG Group has a turnover in excess of £20m and a workforce of around 300.
