Would-be investors given heavenly insight

AN insight into the world of angel investing will be given at an event designed to inspire future investors.
The Yorkshire Association of Business Angels (YABA) seminar being held next Tuesday also promises attendees the chance to hear first-hand experiences from some of Yorkshire’s most active business angels.
It forms part of a nationwide awareness campaign being run by the British Business Angels Association (BBAA) to promote the benefits of becoming a private investor and is being supported by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward.
Among the angels presenting will be Anthony Clarke, chairman of BBAA, Alex McWhirter, head of enterprise at Yorkshire Forward.
Mr Clarke said: “We know there are many people out there with both wealth and industry knowledge to become effective angel investors. The current downturn will have increased the number of people available with relevant experience who could consider becoming angel investors.
” “We need to mobilise and support individuals, both men and women, to leverage their financial and business capacity to make savvy investments and help build successful companies.”
Research published earlier this year showed that while angel investing carries risk investments in SMEs can bring attractive returns.
With the current economic climate seeing greater numbers of entrepreneurs seeking alternatives to bank finance, commentators believe that business angels have an increasingly important role to play in the long-term competitiveness of the UK economy.
