YORKSHIRE developer Waystone is to transform a 40 hectare site in a Czech Republic mining town into a business park.

The mixed-use development, which will feature business, residential and leisure facilities, is to be built on a former garrison site in Stribro.

Glasshoughton-based Waystone has signed an exclusivity agreement with Stribro Council to develop the land, although the plans will go through a public consultation process.

The development will create a number of jobs during construction and upon completion.

Stuart McLoughlin, managing director of Waystone, said: “We are delighted to have been given preferred developer status and look forward very much to working with Stribro council in this very important regeneration project. This is a tremendous opportunity for us all.

“We are very conscious of the need to create a development which meets the needs of the people of Stribro and the surrounding region.”

A team of Yorkshire lawyers have worked on a planning application for one of the largest wind farms in the UK.

Planning lawyers at Hammonds in Leeds gained consent on behalf of a renewable energy company that plans to construct a £200m wind farm in Scotland.

GreenPower won its Section 36 consent application, originally submitted to the Scottish Government in 2004, to build the third biggest onshore wind farm in the UK at Griffin Forest in Perthshire.

Griffin Wind Farm will have 68 wind turbines. The wind farm is projected to offset up to 461,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year during its operation, and will generate electricity equivalent to the annual demand of 114,000 average UK homes.
