Costa Coffee drives into mixed-use development with £1.1m project

Construction work has begun on a new Costa Coffee drive thru coffee shop at a mixed-use development site in Glasshoughton, West Yorkshire.
The site, known as G@Glasshoughton, comprises four development sites covering a total of 24 acres. It is situated close to multi-use attraction Xscape, the Junction 32 outlet shopping centre and a host of other business, retail and leisure facilities.
The £1.1m Costa Coffee project is the latest investment by commercial property developer Wykeland Group at the G@Glasshoughton development.
Scheduled to be completed in January 2019, the 1,800 sq ft drive thru is being built next to the Wakefield College campus and an Asda supermarket.
A further three acres of development land is available in the same location, with plots of up to 20,000 sq ft ready for trade park and light industrial uses.
Arun Mistry, Wykeland project manager, said: “The Costa Coffee drive thru continues Glasshoughton’s successful evolution as a major centre for commercial, retail and leisure development.
“Glasshoughton enjoys a superb, highly-visible and well-connected location, with more than five million people within one hour’s drive time. Our development sites are just two minutes from Junction 32 and benefit from proximity to the extensive facilities and amenities in the area.
“With 11 acres still available for development, we’re keen to hear from businesses looking for the perfect location for manufacturing, light industrial, storage and distribution uses. We can develop for occupiers to rent or provide turnkey opportunities for owner occupiers.”
Costa Coffee comprises more than 2,400 coffee shops in the UK.
Caroline Midgley, acquisition manager of Costa Coffee, added: “We’re excited to have started construction work on this brand new drive thru Costa Coffee store, bringing significant investment to the local area.
“With the opening planned for early next year, we look forward to progressing the development and beginning recruitment for 18-20 new jobs in the coming months.”
Shipley-based firm Stainforth Construction is delivering the build.
Lee Barnes, a partner of Stainforth Construction, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded this project, to build a Costa Coffee drive thru in Glasshoughton.
“We have already completed Costa Coffee drive thrus in Sheffield, Reading, Wakefield and Bolton so this continues a successful relationship. It’s always a pleasure to work with Wykeland Group and Costa Coffee and we look forward to handing over another successful project.”
