Caravan manufacturer confirms job losses

Caravan manufacturer Swift, which has manufacturing sites in Hull and Mexborough, has confirmed that a number of redundancies have bee made at the firm

The firm said that the cuts had been made due to the tough trading environment in the leisure vehicle sector.  In recent months and last year, Swift has operated short-time working in a bid to also cut costs.

It is understood that no more than 15 staff have been affected by the redundancies and that all have now been informed.

A spokesperson at Swift said: “The UK leisure vehicle sector continues to be a tough trading environment and, along with the wider economy, faces levels of uncertainty in the near to medium-term future.

“As a responsible manufacturer, we actively respond to market changes and the challenges they present.

“The company has taken a number of different actions in recent months, including periods of short time working last year.
“Recently a small number of positions have been made redundant, following an efficiency review across the business.

“This activity has now been completed and the employees affected have been informed. A HR1 was not required to be submitted as the number of positions made redundant was less than 15.”
