Industrial units plan for city scrapyard

A light industrial estate could be built on what is currently a Bradford scrapyard if planners agree.

The application for the 2,124 sq m site in Spencer Road, Lidget Green, is for purpose-built light industrial units to provide more than 750 sq m of space and create up to 28 jobs.

A design statement submitted with the application explains the development would improve the appearance of the site, which is currently partly occupied by a battered, single-storey brick building.

The statement adds: “The overall purpose of this project is to create a light industrial estate that complements the street-scene and brings about a more contemporary feel to the area.

“We believe that demolition of the existing weathered and tattered building and clearance of the scrapped cars from the yard will allow for better use of the land while providing more jobs for the local area.

“The removal of the dilapidated building, and its replacement with purpose-built light industrial units can only be a positive influence on the neighbourhood and people in it. The scheme as a whole is sympathetic to its surroundings and will enhance the street-scene and neighbourhood alike.”

As part of the plans, the 28 existing car parking spaces on the land would be retained.
