Builder appointed to construct base for ventilation systems manufacturer

Harrogate-based EnviroVent says its new premises in Harrogate will be built by Skipton-based construction company Sutcliffe Construction, after it was appointed by developer Teakwood Developments.
Sutcliffe Construction is expected to start work this month on the 65,000 sq ft premises on Burley Bank Road for the ventilation systems manufacturer.
It will bring together EnviroVent’s manufacturing facility, warehousing, head office and training suite into one purpose-built headquarters.
The building will be the first phase of the new Harrogate West Business Park, with a second phase planned, bringing more much needed workspace to the area.
Andy Makin, managing director at EnviroVent, said: “Being based on one site with much larger facilities will bring many efficiency benefits for our staff and customers.
“We are really excited about what the new premises will mean for us in terms of our expansion plans in the future.”
James Sutcliffe, Sutcliffe Construction’s managing director, added: “We’re delighted to have been awarded this project and to be working with Teakwood and EnviroVent.
“It’s an exciting project that fits perfectly with our skills and experience.”
Daniel Martin, director of Teakwood Developments, said: “Starting on site will be the culmination of almost four years of design, investigation and planning work.
“Working with Envirovent to expand and grow their business has been very rewarding and the support of the York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has also allowed us to accelerate the delivery of the small unit scheme.
“We already have interest in two units totalling 14,000 sq ft and hope we can build on this success as the construction progresses.”
York & North Yorkshire LEP supported the project with an allocation from the Government’s Getting Building Fund.
David Dickson, chairman of the LEP’s Infrastructure and Joint Assets Board, said: “Harrogate West Business Park will deliver jobs and create a variety of new business opportunities, which is important for our region’s economy as we look to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We were pleased to support infrastructure costs at the site with an allocation from the Getting Building Fund, and we look forward to seeing the continued progress of the development.”
Harrogate Borough Council has also backed the scheme, with Councillor Phil Ireland, the council’s cabinet member for carbon reduction and sustainability, noting: “We are delighted construction for this scheme is due to start and we welcome the significant investment from EnviroVent, a key local employer in the district.
“The council fully supports this project and is grateful to the Local Enterprise Partnership for approving the funding support.
“This investment will provide a boost to the district’s economy at a time when it is very much needed as we recover from the pandemic.”
