Property developer lines up city site for American diner brand

York-based property development company, North Star, has acquired the rights to bring American diner-inspired brand, Hard Rock Café, to Yorkshire.

The Yorkshire flagship venue will be in Coney Street, York, currently the site of TK Maxx.

A planning application for the diner is currently in progress and the venture will create over 75 new jobs.

The multi-level venue will feature a café offering Hard Rock’s blend of music, entertainment, merchandise and American food and drink.

The location boasts a stage, which will showcase local and international acts. There are also plans for an open-kitchen concept, for diners to watch their favourite dishes being prepared. Private event spaces will be available for meetings, groups and private dinners.

A spokesman for North Star said: “This is hugely exciting for us and demonstrates our passion, confidence, and commitment to both the city and the region.

“We know and care passionately about York and have worked hard to create this incredible opportunity to bring a global brand to the heart of Yorkshire.

“We are in positive discussions with York City Council and very much hope to bring Hard Rock to York, as part of our commitment to investing in and further enhancing what we believe is the best city in the UK.”
