Conference to help SMEs manage growth

ENTREPRENEURS and SMEs looking for advice on how to manage growth in the harsh economic climate are being urged to attend a series of master classes.

The Moving Up 2010 conference is being held in Leeds on March 31 and April 1 and will feature successful entrepreneur Charan Gill MBE, the man behind the UK’s largest Indian restaurant chain and the 2009 star of Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire.

The conference on March 31 at the Royal Armouries is aimed at owners and directors of SMEs and Asian entrepreneurs across the North of England who are looking to expand.

Organised by Financial Leeds and the Asian Business Development Network (ABDN), the event will include sessions on access to finance, leadership, marketing enterprise and innovation

Twelve master classes will be run the following day, provided free to delegates by member firms of Financial Leeds including advisors from accountancy and legal firms, private equity, venture capitalists, export advisers and intellectual property specialists.

The event will be rounded off with the annual ABDN Dinner at the Royal Armouries to celebrate businesses that have overcome challenges and grown successfully.

Chief executive of Financial Leeds Howard Kew said: “SMEs are essential to the future of local and regional economies. For many during the recession it has been a question of survival. Now as the recovery begins they face the challenge of growth.

“Recognising the challenges they face, we have arranged this conference with top speakers at a time when entrepreneurs will be weighing the risks of expansion carefully. The addition of free access via the master classes to some of the best financial and professional services experts outside London is an added bonus and perhaps reason alone to attend the conference.”

Sponsorship for the event is being provided by Business Link, UKTI, Connect Yorkshire and Techmesh.
