Historic manufacturer to relocate as part of regeneration
A Sheffield manufacturer will be on the move as part of regeneration works at Parkwood Springs.
The relocation is intended to support the next chapter of one of the city’s most enduring craft traditions, while enabling wider redevelopment of the area.
Inkerman Silver, a manufacturer of Sheffield cutlery and a family business spanning generations, will shift to a new purpose-built facility in the city.
Its move will allow construction of a proposed access road through its current site, while enabling the company to continue manufacturing in Sheffield from a new purpose-built facility.
The new access road will link Oakham Drive and Vale Road, improving access to the area and helping to unlock wider regeneration opportunities at Parkwood Springs.
Inkerman Silver is one of the few remaining Sheffield cutlery manufacturers to complete all of the production process in-house.
The company has its origins in the mid 19th century and supplies the British Royal Family, royal households around the world, along with leading hotels and restaurants internationally.
Alexi Dimond, chair of the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee at Sheffield City Council, said: “This is a positive outcome both for an important Sheffield business and for the future development of Parkwood Springs.
“Inkerman Silver has been part of Sheffield’s manufacturing heritage for generations, and this relocation creates the opportunity for the business to continue operating from a modern purpose-built facility while allowing us to progress the infrastructure needed to support the wider regeneration of the area.
“I would like to thank Inkerman for working with us to develop a solution that supports both the company’s continued success and the regeneration ambitions for Parkwood Springs.”
