Goole’s future in the spotlight

AMBITIOUS plans for the redevelopment of Goole over the next 25 years could result in the town’s waterfront setting taking centre-stage.

The Goole Renaissance Plan could also result in an improvement to the quality of streets and public spaces in the town centre.

The draft plan, backed by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, is on display at the town library until March 11.

The Renaissance Towns Programme was established to ensure that the region’s towns ‘are places in which people want to work, live and invest”.

The document states: “Through development and improved connections, we want the town to embrace its setting, using the river, docks and canal, the country park and the surrounding farmland to strengthen the town and inspire resident, business and visitor communities.

“We want to improve the quantity, quality and appeal of Goole’s housing, in order to attract and accommodate a growing population, including higher income families, expanding the labour pool and improving the viability of local business and services in the process.”
