Roll call of Yorkshire winners at Hospitality Awards

FOUR Yorkshire eateries triumphed at an awards ceremony last night to celebrate the best culinary and hospitality skills across the north’s food, drink and hotel sectors.
Greens Restaurant & Bistro in Whitby took home the Best Restaurant Award at the Northern Hospitality Awards, Van Zeller in Harrogate scooped Best Newcomer and The Devonshire Arms in Bolton Abbey won Best Wine Offering.
James Mackenzie of The Pipe and Glass Inn in Beverley was announced Best Chef.
Emma Green, proprietor of Green’s Restaurant & Bistro, said: “This is a truly amazing achievement and we are delighted to win such a prestigious award. We are looking forward to sharing this success with our fantastic team back in Whitby.”
Tom van Zeller, head chef at Van Zeller, said: “I am thrilled to accept the Best Newcomer award. We have had a fantastic start to 2010 and this award only serves to strengthen our offering going forward.”
Brian van Oosten, general manager of The Devonshire Arms, said: “It is a fantastic honour to win the title of Best Wine Offering; one which our team will be delighted to receive and which our loyal customers will be pleased to discover.”
James Mackenzie, owner of The Pipe & Glass Inn, said: “It has been a phenomenal year so far for The Pipe & Glass Inn and to win this amazing accolade is the icing on the cake. I am absolutely thrilled.”
More than 250 guests from restaurants, bars, pubs and hotels from across Yorkshire, the North West and the North East gathered at the Hilton Deansgate in Manchester for the awards.
The evening was compered by acclaimed food and drink journalist Nigel Barden, who presented the winners with their awards.
