Building Briefs: Letting at Waterfront Wakefield; LaSalle IM deal; Race Cottam works on school; and more

MAIL order company Redcats UK has taken space at CTP St James’s award-winning Waterfront Wakefield development.

Wakefield Council has rented 15,000 sq ft of space at £15 sq ft at the site and sub-let the offices to mail order company Redcats UK.

Oliver Quarmby, of CTP St James, said: “This is tremendous news for our development and for the city of Wakefield. The arrival of our first business occupier is a massive vote of confidence in Waterfront Wakefield and will prove a catalyst for the rest of phase one where we have two further office buildings of 33,000 sq ft to let.

“The apartment building is now fully occupied and there has been a good deal of interest in the retail element of our development, but the arrival of our first office tenant on site should make the idea of running a pub or restaurant on site even more attractive.”

2 Navigation Walk is a grade A three-storey office building with 26 undercroft car parking spaces.

The £100m Waterfront Wakefield project features a mix of high-quality offices and residential buildings and a £26m gallery and centre for creative arts, The Hepworth Wakefield, as well as new space for cafes, bars and restaurants.

WORK on a multi-million pound sustainable homes development is set to commence in South Yorkshire following the appointment of house building company, Lovell for the £3.5m scheme.

The project involves the delivery of 29 energy-efficient houses, flats and bungalows in Wath-upon-Dearne near Rotherham.

Expected to complete in spring next year, the properties will benefit from solar hot water systems as well as energy saving double glazing and wall insulation.

Two of the properties will also offer innovative solar photovoltaic roof panels, which convert sun-light into electrical energy and an exhaust air heat pump ventilation system, which uses otherwise wasted heat in the warm air areas of a home and transfers that heat to hot water.

Commenting on the new development, Colin Harrop, Chairman of the Yorkshire and Humberside RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) board said: “The standard for energy efficient buildings gets higher and tougher to achieve each year as increased developments in technology allow for further improvements in energy measures. So we are pleased that this new development in South Yorkshire meets these stringent, high standards and is being offered to buyers in our region.
