Storage deal performs for Opera North

ARTS company Opera North has acquired the former Polestar Jowetts factory in Leeds from Scottish Widows Investment Partnership for around £2m.

Opera North is to use the 73,374 sq ft property, originally a printing facility, as a storage unit for sets, props and scenery required to stage the various productions.

It will also use the property to assemble scenery, build props, design and produce costumes and to house its own vehicle workshop to service its fleet of vehicles, which are used to support the company on tour.

Andrew Gent, of Leeds-based industrial property speciaist Gent Visick, which worked on the deal, said: “Opera North had been looking for some time for a new facility in which to undertake these operations. Evanston Avenue offered the right mix of accommodation and the location, within three miles of the Grand Theatre, was ideal for them”.

Gent Visick acted on behalf of Scottish Widows Investment Partnership. AWS acted on behalf of Opera North.
