US go-ahead for Surgical Innovations

MEDICAL equipment manufacturer Surgical Innovations has secured approval from US regulators for one of its devices.
The go-ahead from the Food and Drug Administration means Surgical Innovations can now go-ahead with the launch of its reusable PretzelFlex gadget in the lucrative US health market.
Pretzelflex is a device designed to be used by surgeons to manipulate organs and tissues through incisions in the skin.
Leeds-based Surgical Innovations recently showcased the Pretzelflex at the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons congress.
Chief executive Graham Bowland said: “I am delighted we have attained FDA approval for the PretzelFlex device, especially given the rapturous reception the product received at SAGES.
“The approval allows us to launch the product into the US market, which we previously stated is a strategically important market for the Company, and further, shows our importance as a leading designer and manufacturer of minimally invasive surgery devices.”
